Candace Giron

Candace Margaret T. Giron, better known as "Candace Giron" by news program viewers, is the latest frontline-addition to UNTV's international news team. She is the co-anchor of "Ito Ang Balita", the station's evening news program, with veteran broadcast journalist Jay Sonza.


Candace GironMs. Giron started as a newscaster and writer for various FM radio stations, namely K-Lite 103.5, The Vine 99.3 FM in the North Bay, Kool 106, and Kiss FM. She co-hosted "The Big Breakfast Show" on K-Lite and "The Morning Show" on Kiss FM. That early, she even co-produced a daily 15-minute news program, "The Big News on Radio" over Kool 106.


In February 1992, she began her stint in broadcast news as member of the pioneering news team of the Associated Broadcasting Company (ABC). Candace appeared over ABC Channel 5's hourly news update "Live on Five" and its weekly global newscast "Global Update". She was also a substitute anchor for "Balitang Balita" and "The Big News", ABC's primetime news programs, respectively. During her days in the said network, her special report "Bocaue: A Small Town Tragedy" received a special citation from the Catholic Mass Media Awards in March 1994.


Meanwhile, Candace co-anchored "PSE Live: The Stock Market Today" for more than three hours daily from May to December 1997, under the Exchange Television Production.


In 1998, she moved to the state-run National Broadcating Network (NBN) as a writer and host for special news coverage, reports documentaries. She created, hosted and produced two business segments: "BIZTalk" of nightly news program "Teledyardyo" and "The Players" of daily morning news magazine "Good Morning, Pilipinas" Also, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process gave her a chance at government service as a special report writer and producer.


On June 16, 2002, Candace joined GMA Network's roster of news personalities. Ms. Giron was the daily anchor of "GMA Flash Report";, an hourly breaking news program over GMA-7 and QTV-11. At times, she was its substitute executive producer and writer. Her experience in the said station includes being a contributor, writer and voice talent for “News on Q", voice-over announcer for "24 Oras", guest segment host for "Debate", voice-over talent for "Unang Hirit" and "Review Philippines", substitute host for "Imbestigador", and substitute segment host for "Front Page".


Aside from newscasting, Ms. Giron is also a Voice and Accent training consultant of IBM Daksh Philippines. She also taught Speech at the Manila campus of Korea-based Jung Chul Academy.


Her off-studio experience includes being a stage performer, host, mentor and socio-civic volunteer. Ms. Giron is a spokesperson of the AIDS Society of the Philippines, and hosted various events such as the Franchise Excellence Awards, Anvil Awards, where she also served as board of juror.


Presently, she is also a member of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) and the Peace and Conflict Journalism Network (PCJN).


Candace is mother to Ally 13, and Erin 3. She likes good food, good conversation, stomach pain inducing laughter and one liner. She's a perpetual 6 year old and a chocolate addict, too.
