MANILA, Philippines – The Olongapo City Regional Trial Court on Friday (December 14) convicted four Chinese nationals on charges of possession of illegal drugs in connection with the discovery of a floating shabu laboratory in Subic, Zambales.
The four were sentenced to life imprisonment and were ordered to pay P5 million each in civil liability.
Members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard and the Bureau of Customs nabbed the suspects in July 2006 inside a fishing vessel in Subic Bay.
The vessel was then discovered to be a laboratory for manufacturing shabu.
Seized from the suspects were half kilogram of finished product or shabu and a hydrogenator, the main machine used in making illegal drugs. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Mai Bermudez)
