7 injured in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat blast

A CCTV footage captured the moment of explosion at a public market in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat that injured at least seven people.

At least seven people were wounded in the latest blast to hit Sultan Kudarat.

A spot report from the Western Mindanao Command says a loud explosion ripped through a public market in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Saturday (September 7) at 7AM.

The blast is believed to have come from an improvised explosive device that was placed beside a parked motorcycle.

Injured victims were immediately transported to Holy Nazarene Hospital and Sultan Kudarat Provinicial Hospital.

The WestMinCom report identified the victims as:

7 more communist rebels yield in Sultan Kudarat

MANILA, Philippines—Seven more members of the communist terrorist group (CTG) surrendered to the Joint Task Force Central in Sultan Kudarat on Sunday (October 17).

Commander of Western Mindanao Command Maj. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr. said the CTG personalities were identified as Oyet, Maymay, Ben, Noel, Nacan, Osing, and Adog.

They belonged to the Platoon Myphone, East Daguma Front, Sub-regional Command-Daguma, Far South Mindanao Region. The said individuals also handed over their firearms, including two cal. 30 M1 Garand rifles, one cal. 30 M2 Carbine rifle, one 12-gauge Shotgun, and one M79 grenade launcher.

“The military is always willing to welcome former rebels/violent extremists who wish to lay down their arms, go back to the mainstream society, and live a peaceful life with their family,” Rosario said.

During the debriefing, alias Oyet expressed his condemnation of the communist group which he described as a ‘godless’ group.

Dako ang pagmahay namo ngano ning apil mi sa teroristang NPA, mayo na lang naa ang 7IB nga wala ngaduha-duha sa pagdawat namo (We regret our decision of joining the NPA terrorists. It’s a good thing that the 7IB is here to accept us without second thoughts),” alias Oyet said.

It can be recalled that on October 13, eight members of the same group surrendered to the 7IB in the municipality of Bagumbayan. AAC

Soldier dead, another wounded in Basilan IED blast

One soldier was killed and another was wounded on Tuesday after an improvised explosive device detonated and ripped through a temporary checkpoint in Campo Uno, Lamitan City, Basilan.

WestMinCom Acting Commander, Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, in a statement said, initial investigation showed that three unidentified suspects onboard a black Honda XRM were seen in the area when the explosion transpired at around 8:50 a.m.

Following the explosion, one suspect managed to shoot one of the victims and successfully grabbed the other victim’s service arm which was an R4A3 rifle with an M203 grenade launcher attached. The suspects then fled towards the direction of Barangay Cabobo, of the same city.

Ponio said the two army personnel of the 68th Infantry Battalion were immediately evacuated to Lamitan City Hospital for medical attention.

The wounded soldiers were later airlifted to Camp Navarro General where one was declared dead on arrival while the other was brought to Zamboanga City Medical Center for further medical attention.

Troops are exhausting all efforts to assist the police in the conduct of investigation and pursuit operations.

“We will continue to intensify our efforts to identify and neutralize the perpetrators and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents,” Maj. Gen. Ponio further stated.

Four suspects in Sultan Kudarat market bombing nabbed by authorities

MANILA, Philippines – Four people linked to the Sept. 7 bombing in a market in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat have been apprehended, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday.

The AFP Western Mindanao Command identified the suspects as Hassan Akgun, Abedin Camsa, Normia Camsa and Norshiya Camsa.

Akgun is a Swedish national while the nationalities of the other three were unidentified.

The four suspects were nabbed by authorities in a joint enforcement operation on Monday (Sept. 23) in Barangay Kapaya, Bagumbayan in Sultan Kudarat.

Recovered from them were several firearms and ammunitions, an Islamic State (IS) flag and components of an improvised explosive device.

The suspects were brought to Sultan Kudarat Police Office for proper documentation and filing of appropriate charges. – RRD (with details from Correspondent Dante Amento)
