Two-time champion AFP Cavaliers maintains its pristine record after routing the GSIS Furies, 93-87, in a match held on Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.

Best Players of the Game, Vicente Evidor and Boyet Bautista, led the AFP with their combined scores of 40 points and 9 rebounds.

This fourth victory earns the AFP a ticket to the second-round eliminations while the GSIS Furies bid farewell to this season after failing to win any of their games.

“Hopefully, magtuloy tuloy. It’s a long way to go. Syempre, hindi pa kailangang mag-relax,” AFP Cavaliers Coach CPL Cornelio “Sonny” Manucat said.

(Hopefully, our winning streak will continue. It’s a long way to go. Of course, we should not relax yet.)

The AFP is set to face the Season 6 champion Senate Defenders in a match on November 8, Thursday.

Two-time champion Judiciary Magis, meanwhile, finally barged into the win column after clobbering the Ombudsman Graft Busters, 104-65.

Richard Litonjua and Edu Mustre’s combined 24 points led the Judiciary to victory which has now climbed up in the rankings with one win and three losses.

“Itong huling ensayo namin, hard practice na kami, more on defense na kami dahil yun ang nagiging problema,” Judiciary Magis head coach said.

(Our last practice was a hard one, we practiced more on defense because that’s where we are lacking.)

The Judiciary is set to battle with PhilHealth Plus, who keeps two-two win-loss record, in a knockout game on Sunday.

The Ombudsman meanwhile will collide with the NHA Builders in a non-bearing game on November 8.

The rookie team PITC Global Traders also gained a bigger chance to advance to this season’s second round eliminations after defeating DOJ Boosters, 74-60.

Rod Vasaloo and Haddi Porto earned the Best Players of the Game title after bucketing 22 and 15 points, respectively.

“Kaya masaya kaming lahat dahil alam namin na this game is very important to the team. We promised Boss Dave [ Alamarinez] na pag-uwi nya may lalaruan pa sya na liga. So eto nag trabaho naman lahat,” PITC coach Victor Ycasiano said.

(We are happy because we know how important this game is. We promised Boss Dave Almarinez that when he returns he still has a league to play in. So, everyone worked hard for it.)

(The 2 consecutive three-pointers of PITC were back breakers. Instead of catching up only 4 points, it ballooned to 10 points. It was quite demoralizing; we failed to recover.) — Bernard Dadis / UNTV News & Rescue

The Senate’s three-game winning streak snaps Sunday after the Defenders fell to PNP Responders, 60-59, in a heart-thundering game at the Pasig City Sports Center.

Allan Omiping’s three-point shot in the last minute and 60 seconds of the ball game lifted the PNP to victory. Omiping also contributed 16 points to the game, but Anton Tolentino’s 15-point finish with two rebounds and steals and one assist earned him the best player of the game title for the second time.

The Responders also dominated all quarters after blocking the Defenders’ maneuvers.

“Inensayo talaga namin ung depensa namin. So yung mga guys di tumigil dumepensa, naging compose that’s why we get the win,” PNP Responders Head Coach Harold Sta. Cruz said.

(We really practiced our defense. So, the guys didn’t stop on defending, they were composed that’s why we get the win.)

The DA Food Masters, meanwhile, keep their share of Group-B lead by downing the two-time champion Judiciary Magis, 106-78.

Christian Dematera snagged the Best Player of the Game award after bucketing 28 points with four rebounds, one assist and a steal.

This is Food Masters’ third straight win while the Magis are yet to snag their first victory of the season.

“Kulang namin depensa, eh. Kung makikita mo yung mga kalaban namin, parang tira lang ng tira sa labas. Ah, di nagkaroon ng pag-uusap sa loob,” Judiciary Magis Coach Joey Yabut said.

(We lacked defense. Our opponents were just shooting freely from the outside. Internal communication was missing.)

“Credit ito ng mga players. Sila sila mismo gusto manalo. So, ginawa namin yung game plan namin,” DA Food Master Coach Zaldy Realubit said.

(Credit goes to our players. They really wanted to win. So we just executed our game plan.)

Rookie team PITC Global Traders, meanwhile, successfully barged into the win column after smothering the GSIS Furies, 94-61.

Rod Savallo and Luis Lopez led the PITC by exploding a combined 28 points aside from grabbing 20 rebounds in the tournament.

PITC Coach Victor Ycasiano attributes their win to a well-thought out plan and teamwork.

“Yung game plan namin nagawa namin. We have to run… sabi nga namin at the same time we hit our basket,” PITC Global Traders Coach Victor Ycasiano said.

“Talagang hindi naging maganda yung preparation namin this coming weekend,” GSIS Furies Playing Coach Rene Boy Banzali said.

UNTV Cup Season 6 champion Senate Defenders and the Armed Forces of the Philippines kept their share of the Group-A lead after defeating their respective opponents in the seventh edition of the UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center on Sunday, October 14, 2018.

The Senate defeated the Department of Justice Boosters, 87-72 after blocking the latter’s fast transition offense plays to chop down their early edge in the ball game.

Jeffry Sanders lifted the Defenders with his 23-point finish, 20 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks that earned him the best player of the game title.

“Half time, sinabi namin ‘We have to stop their transition offense.’  In doing that, we should be stopping the ball all the time,” Senate Defenders Coach Mike Fermin said.

(During the half time break, we said ‘We have to stop their transition offense.’ In doing that, we should be stopping the ball all the time.)

“Noong later part na, out of frustration na yung mga galaw eh… yun lang ibang players napu-frustrate na, doon kami nagkagulo, medyo nawala sa focus,” DOJ Assistant Coach Jessie Montivirgen said.

(At the later part of the game, our plays were out of frustrations… some of our players were frustrated then. That’s when our game broke down, we lost our focus.)

The AFP Cavaliers also scored their third straight win after clobbering the rookie PITC Global Traders, 78-68.

Jerry Lumongsod led the Cavaliers by bucketing 19 points, including five from the three-point area, 5 assists, four rebounds and steals and a block, earning him the best player of the game award.

“Medyo mataas yung morale ng team, since the start ng league… we will take one game at a time,” AFP Cavaliers Head Coach CPL Cornelio “Sonny” Manucat III.

(Team’s morale is quite high since the start of the league… we will take once game at a time.)

The PhilHealth Plus, meanwhile, gains their second victory after upsetting the Malacañang-PSC Kamao, 90-87.

Kenneth Emata’s buzzer-beater three-point shot served as the key to defeating the Malacañang-PSC after both teams scored 87-all in the last part of the game. His 9-point finish with Jonathan Aldave’s 36 points earned them the game’s best players title.

PhilHealth now holds 2-2 win loss record while this is Malacañang-PSC’s first loss of the season.

“Nagkulang kami sa Defense namin, ball rotation din namin kulang, so kailangan din namin I work out yun,” Malacañang-PSC Kamao Coach Raffy Gutierez said.

“As promised kahit kulang kami ng players, kahit maraming challenges, injury it will not stop us. Dahil dito po sa laro ng UNTV Cup, puso talaga ilalaban namin para sa beneficiaries namin at kami po ay nakikiisa sa magandang adhikain ni Bro. Eli at Kuya Daniel na gamitin namin ang aming talento sa basketball para manalo para sa aming chosen beneficiary,” PhilHealth Plus Head Coach Delio Aseron II said.

(As promised, even though we don’t have enough players, despite the challenges and injury, it will not stop us. Because in this game of UNTV Cup, we will fight with our hearts for our beneficiaries. We are one with the noble advocacy of Bro. Eli Soriano and Brother Daniel Razon of using our talent in basketball to help our chosen beneficiaries.) — BERNARD DADIS / UNTV News & Rescue
