“Ang mga may comorbidity must always consult with their physicians. They cannot make this unilateral decision on their own. They have to consult with their physician para ma guidance,” ani Duque.

“The booster dose simply means you are giving it to a group of individuals who have received the primary series. Halimbawa, Sinovac, the assumption is they will reach a level o adequate antibody protection,” ani Duque.

“But over time that protection wanes. That’s why you want to boost it with the third vaccine. Now, third dose will be particularly for the immunocompromised, people who never really reach an adequate level of antibody protection. You’re giving 3rd dose in the hope they will respond better with the 3rd dose,” dagdag nito.

MANILA, Philippines – The drive-thru vaccination site at Quirino Grandstand in Manila will be offering COVID-19 vaccine booster shots starting Thursday, January 13, the Manila City government said.

In a statement, the city government said the service will be available to 4-wheel vehicle owners from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said the booster shot vaccination is open to the general public, including those residing outside the city.

“Due to the request of our constituents and the people, i-innovate natin itong vaccination drive-thru dito sa Luneta. Imbis na first and second dose lang, gagamitin natin siya ngayon na booster vaccination drive thru site,” Domagoso said.

“So ibig sabihin pwede jeep, taxi, private, o mga korporasyon, pwede po silang magtungo dito sa Luneta drive-thru vaccination site ng City of Manila,” he added.

According to Domagoso, the booster shot drive-thru vaccination will implement a first come, first served policy to the first 300 vehicles with maximum five recipients per car.

This will benefit about 1,500 people daily.

As of Tuesday, January 11, the city government said it has deployed about 198,454 boosters since it started its mass booster vaccination to the public.

Among the vaccination sites in the nation’s capital where booster shots are being administered are in malls, community sites, and some special sites.

Booster administration for two-wheel riders at Kartilya ng Katipunan is likewise ongoing with more than 5,000 delivery, motorcycle, and bicycle riders have been so far inoculated, the city government said.

PH receives 2.7M more doses of US-donated Pfizer vaccines

UNTV News   •   January 10, 2022

The Philippines on Sunday, January 9, received a new batch of over 2.7 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines donated by the United States government through the COVAX facility.

The latest shipment containing 2,703,870 shots brings the total number of vaccines delivered to the Philippines to around 213,487,520 since deliveries began in February 2021.

Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 encouraged Filipinos to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible amid increasing COVID-19 cases in the country driven by more transmissible coronavirus variants.

As per the latest data, Mayor said 52.1 million people are now fully vaccinated in the Philippines while three million booster shots have been administered to eligible individuals.

DOH in talks with Pfizer for purchase of oral antiviral pill Paxlovid – Duque

Robie de Guzman   •   January 5, 2022

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said it has started its negotiations with the representatives of the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer for the procurement of oral antiviral pill Paxlovid.

During the Laging Handa public briefing, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said there was positive feedback following the meeting between a DOH team and the Pfizer representatives.

“Kinakausap ngayon ng team ko si (Philippine) Ambassador (to the US Babes) Romualdez. But the demand kasi in the US, milyon-milyon ang order kasi, ang kayang ibigay immediately was good for 65,000 courses,” Duque said.

“But we are proactive I reassure you, we are doing everything,” he added.

Paxlovid is an oral drug for the treatment of high-risk adult patients. It should be taken with another pill called ritonivar, every 12 hours for five days shortly after the onset of symptoms.

Data from a clinical trial showed that the two-drug antiviral regimen is 88% effective in preventing hospitalizations and deaths in patients at high risk for severe illness.

The antiviral drug has yet to be granted emergency use authorization in the Philippines.

Duque said he has already instructed the country’s Food and Drug Administration to fast-track the process.

“I’ve already instructed FDA to make sure that after I’ve signed the confidentiality disclosure agreement they should already prod Pfizer to already apply for a EUA. We need to go through the process.

The Philippines has granted emergency use authorization for another oral antiviral pill called molnupiravir. Its supply has already been delivered to the country for distribution to hospitals and pharmaceutical companies granted with a compassionate special permit.

The DOH warned the public that these drugs used for COVID-19 treatment are not available online as these are only distributed to accredited firms and facilities. (with details from Correspondent Aiko Miguel)
