DOTr suspends land, sea travel to Visayas, Mindanao due to STS Bising

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the suspension of land and sea travel in Visayas and Mindanao due to the threat of Tropical Storm Bising.
In an advisory, the Transportation Department issued the suspension upon the request of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region V, and as approved by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Emergency Operations Center (NDRRMC-EOC).
“Due to the imminent threat of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) ‘Surigae’ (Bising), the DOTr suspends all land and sea travel, including those of fishing vessels, bound for Visayas and Mindanao via Matnog Port and all other ports in Region V,” the department said in a statement.
Trucking/logistics companies and buses are also advised to postpone their travel to avoid long queues at Matnog, Sorsogon, to Daraga, Albay.

‘Surigae’ enters PAR, now Tropical Storm Bising – PAGASA
MANILA, Philippines – Severe tropical storm ‘Surigae’ is now inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was given the local name ‘Bising,’ the second tropical cyclone in the country this year.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), ‘Bising’ entered PAR at 6:20 a.m. on Friday (April 16).
PAGASA said the trough of Bising will affect the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao.
On Friday, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Eastern Visayas while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated skies with isolated rain showers will affect the rest of Visayas, Palawan including Kalayaan Islands, Occidental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds from the northeast to northwest with moderate to rough seas will affect the eastern section of Visayas.
Light to moderate winds from northeast to northwest with slight to moderate seas will prevail over the rest of Visayas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan including Kalayaan Islands.
