Elreen Ando, Mary Flor Diaz won 3 medals at Asian Weightlifting Championships
MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipinas showed their prowess by taking home three medals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Uzbekistan on Tuesday (April 20).
Elreen Ando finished second and bagged the silver medal in the women’s 64 kg division after tallying a combined 213 kg. She also won another silver medal at the clean and jerk with 119 kg, while settled for the bronze medal during snatch with 94 kg.
Wen-Huei Chen of Chinese Taipei won the gold medal for the said division after finishing with a 228 kg combined tally.
Meanwhile, Mary Flor Diaz also secured three medals in the women’s 45 kg. She recorded a total of 135 kg with 60 kg in snatch and 75 kg in clean and jerk.

Hidilyn Diaz qualifies for Tokyo Olympics at Asian Weightlifting Championships
Hidilyn Diaz has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in summer 2021 at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
During her second attempt, Diaz managed to lift 90 kg which was enough for her to secure a spot in the Olympics. She completed the five-tournament stint which is a requirement of the International Weightlifting Federation for an athlete to qualify in the Olympics.
Diaz secured 4th place with a 94kg snatch and a 118kg clean and jerk.

Filipino athletes who will also compete in Tokyo include pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena; boxers Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno; and gymnast Carlos Yulo.
Diaz won a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She became the first Filipina woman to win an Olympic medal in Rio. AAC
