Ex-Congressman Andaya survives ambush try in Camarines Sur

MANILA, Philippines — Unidentified gunmen attacked former Camarines Sur Representative Rolando Andaya Jr. while on board his vehicle in Pili town on Tuesday, local police said.

In a statement, the Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) said the incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Palestina.

Initial investigation showed the suspects on board a motorcycle shot at Andaya’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. Two fired cartridges of caliber .45 were recovered from the area.

The former lawmaker was unhurt in the incident, police said.

PRO5 chief Police Brigadier General Jonnel Estomo said he has ordered an investigation into the shooting incident.

A special provincial investigation team was also created to help identify the suspects.

Estomo said additional police units were deployed in the area to monitor and prevent similar incidents.

“Tayo po ang nagdeploy na ng karagdagan pulis sa lugar upang alisin ang pangamba sa ating mga kababayan na naroon,” Estomo said.

“Makakaasa po kayo na kami ay makikipagtulungan sa mga witnesses at mga local government official ng Camarines Sur upang mapabilis na pagtukoy at pagresolba sa insidenteng ito,” he added.

2 top political bets hurt in Misamis Occidental shooting

MANILA, Philippines – Two local candidates in next year’s elections in Misamis Occidental were injured in a shooting incident, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday.

In a statement, the PNP said Lopez Jaena Mayor Michael Gutierrez, who is running for vice governor, sustained a gunshot wound to the head after a sniper fired at a party they were attending in Tangub City around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Gutierrez was rushed to the hospital. His family said the mayor successfully underwent an operation but he has yet to regain consciousness.

Gutierrez attended the party along with House Deputy Speaker Henry Oaminal and other local politicians, including former Oroquieta City Mayor Jason Almonte who is a congressional aspirant.

The PNP said Almonte was also injured in the incident while Oaminal suffered minor bruises in the arm and back of the head.

Both Almonte and Oaminal are now in stable condition and have been released from the hospital, it added.

PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Roderick Augustus Alba said investigation into the incident is underway.

A lockdown was also imposed in Tangub City while dragnet operations are underway against the perpetrators. Mobile checkpoints have also been set up around the city.

 Police Brigadier General Benjamin Acorda Jr., PRO-10 Regional Director, said a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) has been formed to focus on the incident.

“Police Regional Office 10 strongly condemns the shooting incident that transpired yesterday in tangub city during a christmas fellowship party of the group of Congressman Henry Oaminal, Mayor Michael Gutierrez and Mr Jason Almonte,” Acorda said in a separate statement.

“We encourage the public to provide us relevant information especially those who have witnessed the incident and report it to the nearest police stations or through these numbers: 0917-631-1813/0915-303-3072,” he added.

4.3 magnitude earthquake hits Camarines Sur

MANILA, Philippines—A 4.3 magnitude earthquake hit Camarines Sur on Thursday evening(October 14), according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Based on a bulletin, the center of the quake was located in Canaman, Camarines Sur. It was of tectonic origin with a depth of one kilometer. Due to the impact, several establishments within the area were damaged.

Phivolcs reported the following intensities:

Intensity V – Canaman, Camarines Sur
Intensity IV – Calabanga, Camaligan, Gainza, Ocampo, Pili, and Sipocot, Camarines Sur
Intensity III – City of Naga
Intensity II – Buhi, Camarines Sur

Phivolcs also reported the following instrumental intensities:

Intensity VI – Pili, Camarines Sur
Intensity V – Sipocot, Camarines Sur
Intensity III – Iriga City, Camarines Sur
Intensity II – Legazpi City, Albay
Intensity I – Mercedes, Camarines Norte

Baha na sa ilang panig ng Camarines Sur dahil sa walang tigil na pag-ulan bunsod ng bagyong Bising.

Kabilang sa mga binaha ang Himagtocon Lagonoy Spillway kaya hindi ito ngayon madaanan ng lahat ng uri ng sasakyan.

Malakas na ulan rin ang nararanasan ngayon sa Bicol region kaya nagpatupad na ng forced at pre-emptive evacuation sa landslide at flood-prone areas ang mga lokal na pamahalaan.

Sa tala ng Office of the Civil Defense Region 5, aabots sa 27,211 pamilya ang pansamantalang nanunuluyan sa iba’t ibang evacuation centers sa rehiyon.

Paalala naman ng Department of Health sa mga lokal na opisyal na magtalaga ng safety officers na magsasagawa ng clinical at exposure assessment sa lahat ng mga nasa evacuation center upang maiwasan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19 at iba pang uri ng sakit.

Sa Camarines Norte, nawalan ng supply ng kuryente ang ilang lugar dahil sa malalakas na hangin at natumbang mga puno.

Agad namang naalis ang mga punong nakahambalang sa mga kalsada kaya’t maaari pa itong daanan ng mga sasakyan.

May napaulat ding 959 na mga pasaherong naipit sa iba’t ibang pantalan sa Bicol matapos suspindihin ang biyahe ng mga barko.

Hindi rin pinayagang dumaan sa Maharlika Highway sa bayan ng Pilar, Sorsogon ang 87 truck upang maiwasan ang pagdami ng mga truck sa Matnog port.
