Tokyo – A Japanese billionaire said Sunday he is searching for a woman to travel to the moon with – an unusual but concrete offer promising a real journey full of adventure.

The proposal comes from Yusaku Maezawa, founder of fashion retail firm Zozo, who in 2018 announced his intention to become the first space tourist with a trip to the moon on a SpaceX ship.

“Maezawa looks to find his life partner […] Come to the moon with me?” the billionaire said through Twitter and “Full Moon Lovers,” a website he made to find his potential partner.

That spaceship, created by a firm owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, plans to orbit the moon by 2023. In 2018, Maezawa announced he would like to be accompanied by eight artists and is now in search of a girlfriend for the trip.

On the website, the billionaire makes it clear from the outset that he seeks “a special someone” to accompany him.

The idea is to document this search and air it as a reality show broadcast on internet channel AbemaTV. It is understood that the winner will get to accompany Maezawa to the moon.

However, prospective matches must meet several conditions – including being single, at least 20 years of age, with a “bright personality and always positive” and with a desire to “enjoy life to the fullest.”

Moreover, the website says she has to be someone “who wishes for world peace.”

Candidates will have to place their relevant information through a link on the website by Jan. 17, and the selection process will begin a week later.

The final match will be announced toward the end of March, but Maezawa will personally meet the candidates prior to that and the process will be documented in a reality show.

In 2019, the eccentric Japanese billionaire announced his intention to give away about 100 million dollars to 100 people chosen at random from those who would retweet his Twitter post as part of a social experiment.

In 2017, Maezawa acquired a J.M. Basquiat painting worth $110 million at an auction, marking the highest price paid for an American artist’s work in a private.

The 44-year-old entrepreneur and art collector launched Zozo in 2004, a company that made him one of the richest people in the world, with a fortune Forbes valued at about $1.8 billion in 2019.

Although still linked to Zozo, the entrepreneur sold the firm’s majority stake to Yahoo Japan in September last year, in a transaction valued about $3.7 billion.

Unfortunately, his professional success has not been replicated in love, as the site claimed he suffered from feelings of “loneliness and emptiness.” EFE-EPA

China to probe far side of moon this year

China plans to probe the far side of the Moon starting from the end of 2018, according to the country’s space scientists.

The far-side lunar probe will use Chang’e-4 for a soft landing and start researches, said Bao Weimin, director of the technology department under the China Aerospace Science and Technology.

As the Moon’s rotation period is equal to its revolution period, which is called as synchronous rotation by scientists, there is always one side of the Moon facing away from the Earth, known as the far side.

Therefore, contacts cannot be made from the Earth to Chang’e-4. To ensure the smooth communication, scientists will first launch another satellite to relay the information sent by Chang’e-4 to the Earth. — Reuters
