MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to pick the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who will replace outgoing Police General Guillermo Eleazar, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said.
Año said Duterte is having difficulty in deciding on whom to pick among the list as this would be his last appointment before his term ends in 2022.
Año earlier said he submitted five names for Duterte’s selection but did not disclose its content.
The next top cop will succeed Eleazar who is set to retire from service on Nov. 13.
Eleazar, for his part, believes that whomever Duterte will appoint as the country’s next top cop will be “competent enough” to lead the police force.
Eleazar declined to divulge his plans after his stint in the PNP but stressed that his retirement from service will allow him to spend more time with his family.
