MANILA, Philippines—The Manila City Government is set to construct three new housing projects to continue to address the plight of informal settlers.

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso on Thursday (July 15) said the housing projects will be constructed in San Sebastian, San Lazaro, and Pedro Gil areas. According to Domagoso, the San Sebastian Residences, San Lazaro Residences, and Pedro Gil Residences will be a 20-storey high building with 300 units each and health center based on the ground floor.

“If Singapore did it, Manila can do it. Ang mga pinatayo nating bahay ang magbabalik ng dignidad sa buhay ng mga Manilenyo (The housing we have constructed will bring back the dignity in the lives of Manileños). There will be an opportunity for them,” he said.

Domagoso previously led the inauguration of the 42-square meters two-storey townhouse unit called BaseCommunity last July 5. The unit includes two bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen, one laundry area, one toilet and bath area.

According to the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO), the future housing projects is on top of the ongoing construction of city government’s flagship housing projects called Tondominium 1, Tondonminium 2, and Binondominium. All of which are now more than 50% complete. AAC

Presidential bets send help to address potable water shortage in Odette-hit areas

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirants Isko Moreno, Bongbong Marcos, Manny Pacquiao, and Leni Robredo individually sent assistance to areas severely hit by Typhoon Odette and addressed the problem of not having sufficient drinking water in these areas.

Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso on Monday said he sent a team from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to Cebu City to help in the clearing operations in the area and provide clean drinking water with the use of the water filtration machine that the team brought.

MDRRMO Director Arnel Angeles said water tankers went around the city to provide the needs of Cebu City residents for potable water.

Former Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, on the other hand, sent gallons of drinking water and filtration kits to the victims of Typhoon Odette.

Marcos noted the importance of filtration kits as residents in the typhoon-hit areas were left without a good source of clean drinking water.

He said this is the same problem that was seen and experienced by his team when they sent help to areas ravaged by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

The BBM-Sara tandem promised to continue sending assistance to the areas that were hit by Odette.

Meanwhile, Senator Manny Pacquiao expressed concern over the effects of the shortage of drinking water on the health of the people in the typhoon-ravaged areas.

He said that he has been receiving reports that people in these areas were rendered helpless and just get drinking water from unsafe sources.

Pacquiao said that his team is scouting from suppliers of water filtration systems and portable toilets to be set up in evacuation centers.

Vice President Leni Robredo, in the meantime, said she will send 30 tons of drinking water to the provinces of Cebu and Bohol.

Robredo thanked her volunteers who helped and sent assistance to the typhoon victims. —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Nel Maribojoc)

Moreno calls for faster processing of insurance claims in areas hit by Odette

Maris Federez   •   December 20, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso has called on the Insurance Commission to fast track the processing of insurance claims by victims of Typhoon Odette.

“Nananawagan [ako] sa Insurance Commission na tawagan ng pansin, pabilisin yung insurance claim ng insurance ng mga bahay at negosyo. Kasi dapat mabilis ang kilos dahil kailangang kailangan nila ng panggastos, kailangan nila tubig, kuryente e hindi ko naman kayang dalhin yun,” Moreno said.

The Insurance Commission is the government’s regulatory arm and overseer of the insurance and health maintenance organizations (HMO) industry.

Moreno said many Filipinos have lost their properties and livelihood, such as fishing and farming, due to the typhoon.

He also called on the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation to help facilitate the claims of farmers and fishers affected by the calamity.

Aside from the Php2.5 million assistance of the Manila City Hall, the members of the Manila City Council have also pooled Php370,000 to be given to calamity victims, as their response to the call of Mayor Isko for a bayanihan. —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Nel Maribojoc)
