MANILA, Philippines — Bocaue, Bulacan Mayor Eleanor “Joni” Villanueva-Tugna died on Thursday (May 28), her political party PDP-Laban confirmed in a Twitter post.

PDP-Laban Executive Director Ron Munsayac offered his sympathies to the loved ones of the late official.

She was the sister of Senator Joel Villanueva and the wife of  former CIBAC party-list representative, Sherwin Tugna.

Mayor Villanueva-Tugna was known as the “coin toss” mayor after canvassing officials settled the mayoralty race between her and rival Jim Valerio through a best-of-five “heads” or “tails” tossing of coin after both candidates received exactly the same number of votes in the 2016 elections.

Under her leadership, the local government of Bocaue, Bulacan in April extended assistance to the farmers of Cordillera amid the Luzon-wide lockdown by buying their unsold produce and repacking it as part of the relief goods distributed to residents.
