New tropical cyclone sighted outside PAR

PAGASA monitors a new tropical cyclone outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

A low pressure area (LPA) has developed into a tropical cyclone.

The state weather bureau said that as of 3pm today, the weather system is located at a distance of 2455km east of Mindanao, packed with maximum sustained winds of 45kph and gustiness of 60kph.

The tropical cyclone moves northeast at a speed of 20kph.

PAGASA still monitors if it will affect the country in the following days and if it enters PAR, it will be named “Gardo.”

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is currently affecting western part of Luzon and Visayas where heavy rains are expected and likely to cause flooding and landslides.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with heavy rains or thunderstorms.

Monsoon rains prevailing over PH – PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said it would be rainy today (June 21) in Luzon as the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to prevail over the region.

Specifically, the weather system is affecting areas of MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan where cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms is being experienced,

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country are also experiencing the effects of Habagat along with localized thunderstorms which bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.

Weather authorities advice the general public to be prepared as these conditions may possibly cause flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and in some areas due to severe thunderstorms.

MANILA, Philippines —  State weather agency PAGASA forecasts prevailing rains over Luzon due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat.

As of Tuesday (June 15), cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect the entire Ilocos Region.

This may cause flash floods and landslides in areas susceptible to these hazards due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the combined effects of habagat and localized thunderstorms continue to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

These conditions are expected to cause possible flash floods or landslides due to severe thunderstorms thus, residents are advised to take precautionary measures against these hazards.

PAGASA has not seen any brewing storm or weather disturbance to date, though rains will prevail due to the onset of the rainy season.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the southwest monsoon is now affecting Luzon and Western Visayas.

Specifically, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon as well as Western Visayas will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms which may possibly cause flash floods or landslides due to moderate or at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is affecting the rest of the country bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. .

These conditions may cause flash floods or landslides due to severe thunderstorms in areas susceptible to these hazards.
