QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Incoming PNP chief P/CSupt. Ronald Dela Rosa is not adding security details despite reports that drug lords inside the New Bilibid Prison have offered and even raised the bounty on his head to P50 million.

“There isn’t better defense than my faith in the Lord. The Lord is my greatest security,” Dela Rosa bravely said.

Gen. Dela Rosa adds that he is serious when it comes to his campaign against illegal drugs thus he is determined to spend his remaining years in office, delivering to the people the best service he could as a law enforcer.

The Philippine National Police is ready to provide Dela Rosa with additional protection because he deserves it as the next police chief.

“He is tasked with a great responsibility and the office he is representing. That’s the reason why he really deserve to be protected,” said PNP PIO Chief Wilben Mayor.

Mayor explains that the chief of police is entitled to a maximum of 10 security aides under police security protocol. Each of them has to undergo specific training on how to secure the PNP chief.

PDP Laban’s ‘BaGo’ tandem received well by supporters

Aileen Cerrudo   •   October 14, 2021

MANILA, Philippines—Partido Demoratiko Pilipino-Lakas Bayan (PDP-Laban) said the tandem of  presidential aspirant Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa with Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as his vice president has been well received by supporters.

PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag said the party is set to roll out the caravan this week for the two candidates dubbed as the “BaGo” tandem.

“We are ready for that, we are preparing for that. But let me state it again, we are already rolling the campaign of Bato-Go tandem. Sabi nga namin, “BaGo 2022’ para sa tuloy-tuloy na pagbabago (BaGo 2022 for change to continue),” he said.

Matibag added that it may look like a last-minute decision but Dela Rosa has been one of the choices as the standard-bearer of the ruling party since months ago, and his selection went through the proper process.

“He [Bato] is being received very well,” Matibag said.

“I admire the humility of Senator Bato na sinasabi niya, ‘Hindi naman talaga ako, mayroon talagang ibang pwede,’  and that is a good character of a next president of the republic,” he added. AAC

Senate, House ratify bill lowering height limit for uniformed personnel

Robie de Guzman   •   March 16, 2021

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate and the House of Representatives have ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the proposal seeking to lower the minimum height requirement for applicants of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

During a session on Monday, both chambers adopted Senate Bill 1563 and House Bill 8261 or the proposed PNP, BFP, BJMP, BuCor Height Equality Act.

The reconciled bill provides that the minimum height limit for males to be appointed as officers or members of the PNP, BFP, BJMP, and BuCor shall be 1.57 meters or 5 feet 2 inches and 1.52 meters or 5 feet for females.

Currently, in order to be appointed as uniformed personnel of the PNP, BFP, BJMP, and BuCor, a male person must be at least 5 feet 4 inches, and a female person must be at least 5 feet 2 inches.

Dela Rosa, a former PNP chief, said the reconciled bill adopted the retention of the automatic waiver for members of the cultural minorities and Indigenous Peoples, as provided for in the Senate version. It also adopted the higher chamber’s provision lowering the height requirement for PNPA cadets.

“We retained the uniform height requirement for the PNP applicants including PNPA Cadets as stated in the Senate version of the bill,” Dela Rosa said.

“This chamber (Senate) can be a vehicle to limit or prohibit many things. But today, we have chosen to become a key in opening the gates of public service. We welcome those who may be less in height but possess the biggest of hearts for the service of the country,” he added.

Bong Go.
