MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) welcomes the reinvestigation of cases against police officers involved in anti-illegal drug operations and were  cleared of administrative liability by the PNP Internal Affairs Service.

The Department of Justice is eyeing to review the deaths that resulted in the course of the government’s war on drugs.

PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar assured the  full cooperation of the PNP in the planned case review.

“The PNP is open to any investigation dahil wala kaming itinatago. If the DOJ will push through with the review of the cases of those police officers who were already cleared, I will guarantee full cooperation.

The PNP previously submitted to the DOJ case folders of anti-illegal drug operations, where deaths occurred, for the agency’s review and investigation. AAC

PNP to closely monitor cemeteries, columbaria ahead of Undas – Eleazar

Robie de Guzman   •   October 23, 2021

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said it will closely monitor cemeteries nationwide ahead of the observance of the Catholic community’s Undas.

In a statement, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said he has directed police personnel to be prepared for the arrival of people in cemeteries, memorial parks, or columbaria during Undas on November 1 and 2.

Eleazar said they are expecting people to visit these areas before November to avoid crowds.

The PNP chief’s directive comes after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases ordered for the closure of cemeteries from October 29 to November 2.

Eleazar also reminded the public to strictly abide by health and safety protocols to prevent further transmission of COVID-19.

DOJ vows to review more drug war cases before end of Duterte’s term

Maris Federez   •   October 22, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) said it will try to review more drug war cases before the end of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra said they are coordinating with Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police-General Guillermo Eleazar for the turnover of documents relative to the cases for their review.

Guevarra, however, said the review will depend on their manpower and on whether the case file folders from the different PNP regional offices in the country are already available and complete.

The DOJ is also considering conducting random reviews of the cases coming from the regions.

Meanwhile, Guevarra stressed that they will not allow the investigation that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is planning to launch on the government’s drug war to affect their review.

Sabi nga ng kanilang bagong prosecutor I understand that they will continue with the investigation. Kung ano man ang naibigay sa amin irereview namin with proper recommendations,” Guevarra said.- —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Dante Amento)

“I am reiterating my warning against political aspirants with connections to criminal groups, you will be arrested. The PNP will stop you from using your guns and goons to try to steal the elections from our kababayan,” ani Eleazar. —/mbmf
