MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang insists that the court-martial of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have jurisdiction over Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

In a statement on Thursday (September 6), Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that since the amnesty given to the lawmaker in 2010 is voided, his current status will be reverted to his previous one prior to the granting of the amnesty.

“In view of this, the Armed Forces of the Philippines has stated that the court-martial proceedings against Senator Trillanes will continue,” he said.

Roque also said that Trillanes’ resignation from the military service does not undo the violations he committed against the Articles of War, particularly the act of rebellion.

Meanwhile, Malacañang denied the allegations of Trillanes that the Duterte administration is preparing to declare a revolutionary government when the president nullified his amnesty. – UNTV News & Rescue

‘Wrong strategy’ : Roque on Pacquiao’s corruption allegations, ‘politicking’

Marje Pelayo   •   July 1, 2021

MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque called Senator Manny Pacquaio’s recent statements about the alleged corruption in the government as ‘politicking’, knowing that the senator is running for a key position in the 2022 national elections.

Roque added that such a move is a “wrong strategy” on the part of Pacquiao for the upcoming polls.

“Politika po iyan. Alam naman nating lahat na gustong tumakbong presidente ni Pacquiao. Sa akin po hindi tamang istratehiya iyan,” the Palace spokesman said during Thursday’s (July 1) press briefing in Iloilo City.

Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte is waiting for Pacquiao to provide the Palace a list of government agencies he claims as corrupt, one of which is the Department of Health (DOH).

“Inaantay ni presidente ang listahan [niya] ng mga corrupt na ahensya ng gobyerno. Bagaman ang isa sa sinasabi niya sa mga ahensya na iyon ay DOH, iyan naman po ay naimbestigahan ng mabuti ng senado. So wala pong bago,” Roque said referring to Pacquiao.

The boxer senator recently named the DOH as among the top corrupt government offices in the country.

He cited as example the agency’s purchases made for personal protective equipment (PPE) and overpriced test kits during the early days of the country’s fight against COVID-19.

As for the 2022 elections, Roque said Duterte has been pondering who to endorse for the presidential race.

He said Duterte might choose among three contenders, one of whom was Pacquiao.

Marje Pelayo   •   June 22, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed that fully vaccinated inbound international travelers will undergo a shorter quarantine period effective on Tuesday (June 22).

The schedule of implementation of the protocol initially scheduled on June 16 was moved due to the glitches the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) had to fix in its system programming for the verification of vaccination cards.

“Ito po iyong automated vaccination data base na kinakailangang patakbuhin para may basehan para mag-authenticate ng mga Certificate of Vaccination na ipiprisinta sa Bureau of Quarantine,” the Palace spokesman said in a public briefing on Monday (June 21).

The shorter quarantine period of seven days took effect at 1:00 A.M. on June 22 on all inbound international travelers who already completed two COVID-19 vaccine shots.

Those who will not show COVID-19 symptoms shall no longer undergo RT-PCR testing.
