by UNTV News   |   Posted on Friday, April 12th, 2019

UNTV News and Rescue is set to conduct the 4th Rescue Summit on Sunday (April 28) at the Marikina Sports Center.

The summit which will be done in partnership with the Marikina City Government will start at 6 o’clock in the morning with whole day activities showcasing disaster response capability, rescue competition, and disaster preparedness seminars infused with entertainment from guest artists.

Conceptualized by Mr. Public Service, Kuya Daniel Razon, the rescue summit aims to establish a strong coordination with rescue units in the local government sector and the general public in preparing for the widely-anticipated strong earthquake dubbed as ‘The Big One’.

Partnering with the LGUs

UNTV’s partnership with the Marikina government this year was forged during the station’s annual rescue sendoff ceremony on New Year’s eve at the Marikina Riverbanks when all the UNTV News and Rescue units and volunteers and the Marikina Rescue 161 units joined forces in responding to emergency calls during the revelry of welcoming 2019.

“Baka po pwede magkaroon kami (tayo) ng mga joint exercises para lalong mapatibay ang ating rescue efforts at yung organization natin… hindi para lang sa atin kundi para sa lahat ng mga nangangailangan,” Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro suggested.

Marikina’s Rescue 161 is one of the most established rescue units in the country with a standard 5-minute response time anywhere in the City.

In 2018, UNTV initially partnered with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in mounting the 3rd Rescue Summit at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. It was participated in by various local government units and government agencies, as well as key officials in the national level, such as PNP Chief, Police Director-General Oscar Albayalde, DILG Undersecretary for Public Safety Nestor Quinsay, Jr., and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Executive Director Usec. Ricardo Jalad.

Learning and competing

The seminars in the 4th Rescue Summit include Disaster Concept and Management, Family Disaster Plan, Wound Management and Limb Injury Management, Hands-only CPR, and Basic Ropemanship and Hazardous Material Orientation.

Aside from the opportunity for advanced learning, nine rescue units will also be participating in a rescue competition.

The nine teams are: Palawan PDRRMO, Ilocos Sur PDRRMO, Camarines Sur PDRRMO, Cagayan PDRRMO, Bulacan PDRRMO, Nueva Vizcaya PDRRMO, Laguna PDRRMO and Balanga CDRRMO, City of San Pedro DRRMO.

Over P5-million worth of prizes await the winners:

First place           –        P2-million

Second place       –        P1.5-million

Third place          –        P1-million

Fourth place        –        P500,000

Fifth place           –        P100,000

Sixth place           –        P100,000

Seventh place      –        P50,000

Eighth place        –        P50,000

Ninth place          –        P50,000

The beginning of a worthy cause

The UNTV News and Rescue team was conceptualized and immediately realized in 2010. This was to address the growing need for more rescue teams to respond to emergency situations brought about by disasters and calamities.

UNTV News and Rescue founder, Kuya Daniel Razon, believes that every news team in broadcast organizations have the responsibility to respond to emergencies not just by mere reporting of details, but first and foremost, by saving lives or, at the very least, ensuring that people are led far from danger.

“Naumpisahan natin yung ‘Tulong Muna Bago Balita’, yung ating mga reporters ay capable na tumulong sa pag-rerescue at yung ating mga vehicles, kinonvert natin sa rescue vehicles dahil dito natin ipinasok yung konseptong ‘Tulong Muna, Bago Balita’.

Since then, UNTV News and Rescue has been be upskilling, organizing free rescue trainings and acquiring rescue equipment to better serve those in emergency situations and be a reliable partner in public service. – Maris Federez

NHA Provident Fund receives P1-M at UNTV Cup Season 7

by UNTV News   |   Posted on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019

The NHA Builders together with their chosen beneficiary NHA Provident Fund receive their cash prize of P1,000,000 after finishing 3rd in seventh season in the league of public servants, UNTV Cup. The prize was given during the 2nd game of the UNTV Cup Season 7 Finals at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on March 11, 2019 by the UNTV Cup innovator, BMPI-CEO and President Kuya Daniel Razon together with BMPI vice presidents and UNTV Cup commissioner Atoy Co. Despite finishing third at the UNTV Cup Season 7, the National Housing Authority (NHA) basketball team, NHA Builders, still enjoyed the opportunity to donate P1,000,000 to their chosen beneficiary: the NHA Provident Fund.

Since joining the League of Public Servants in 2014, the NHA Builders have been providing for their chosen charity.

The NHA Provident Fund was created in 1981 by the first general manager of NHA, Retired Major General Gaudencio Tobias. It was established as a way of providing support to the employees of the agency through loans and extending assistance to dependents of employees who passed away.

“It’s a big help to the members and to the members’ dependents. Malaking tulong talaga ito [It’s really a big help]. It became an additional working capital to our welfare fund because many of our employees are getting older,” NHA Provident Fund Chairperson Wilma Hernandez said.

“For Kuya Daniel and Bro. Eli, thank you very much. This tournament helps a lot to our provident fund and of course to our players. I wish that you will continue with this tournament. It is a worthy endeavor. We are looking forward to a continuing relationship with your team and our team also. Thank you very much,” Chairperson Wilma Hernandez added.

The players and coach were happy with what they achieved this season and promised to do better in the next season.

“Regardless sa mga challenges na pinagdaanan, maswerte kami pumasok kami sa Final 4. Pero yung mapanalunan namin yung 3rd place, this is one-step higher sa na-achieve namin last season (Regardless of the challenges we faced, we were lucky to be part of the Final 4 teams this season. But to win the 3rd place, this is one step higher from what we have achieved last season),” NHA Builders’ Chief-of-Staff Atty. John Christopher Mahamud said.

“Nakakatuwa dahil madodoble namin yung maibibigay namin sa beneficiary namin — from P500,000 last season to P1,000,000 this season— sa Provident Fund (I feel happy because we will be able to double our grant to
the NHA Provident Fund ; from P500,000 last season to P1,000,000 this season), NHA Builders shooting guard Alvin Vitug said.

“We are one step higher ngayon di ba? Next year, season 8 gusto na namin lumaban sa championship. Hindi na namin papakawalan ito (We are one step higher. Next year, season 8, we want to battle for the championship title. We will not miss the chance),” NHA Head Coach Silverio “Benett” Palad. — UNTV Cup Staff
