Respected and Palanca award-winning writer and director Floy Quintos joined the team behind “Song for Heroes 2”, the much-awaited sequel to the benefit concert for the Philippines’ gallant uniformed men held on March 19 this year.
Earlier this May, Quintos met with the management of Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), the main organizer of the concert. He presented his concept for this endeavor and shared the message he wants to convey.
The Songs for Heroes 2 concerted entitled “Ang Mamatay Nang Dahil Sa Iyo” (To Die For You) is Quintos’ first project involving the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“As a writer, [this concert] is a good opportunity to show to our fellowmen the importance of unity between AFP and PNP, and their battle to maintain peace in our country, ” he remarked.
“The story I want to share is the story of our soldiers and police and the struggles the are in. By injecting those factors, [Songs for Heroes 2] will be more than a concert – it will also serve as an eye-opener,” he added.
Quintos is known for his playwright such as “Atang: Dulang may Musika” and “Ang Kalungkutan ng mga Reyna,” which won first prize in Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature 2008. He also wrote for movies like the 1994 blockbuster hit, “Darna : Ang Pagbabalik.”
The upcoming benefit concert will not only showcase the singing talents selected uniformed men but their acting abilities as well. It will also feature some of the country’s top-calibre theatre actors and singers.
The first Songs for Heroes concert was held as a tribute for the 44 SAF commandos who were slain during the Mamasapano encounter. Over Php 6 million pesos was given to the families and relatives of the fallen heroes.
