AFP on Songs for Heroes 2: “We will be actively participating”

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), one of the two government organizations who will join Songs for Heroes 2, expressed its support to the sequel of the benefit concert helmed by Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI) for the Philippines’ uniformed men.

Key officials from the AFP, together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been attending a series of meeting oragnized by BMPI for the upcoming concert, which will be staged on June 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

“We will be try to be as active as we did the last time, or even surpass it,” Lt. Col. Martin Dais of the ODCS Civil Military Operations remarked.

Lt. Cl. Dais, who was present on the first conceptualization meeting held on April 20, praised the ideas presented by the production team of Songs for Heroes 2.

Songs for Heroes 2, entitled “Ang Mamatay Nang Dahil Sa Iyo (To Die for You), will have Dulaang UP’s Alex Cortez, writer-director Floy Quintos and songwriter Mon del Rosario as its director, script writer and musical director, respectively.

The first Songs for Heroes concert was held on March 19 this year for the benefit of the families of the Gallant 44, the group of PNP Special Action Forces troopers who were slain during the infamous Mamasapano encounter in January.

Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., AFP’s chief of staff, graced the event and thanked the organizers for putting up such “wonderful and noble endeavor.”

Earlier in April, Catapang formally received the Php 1 million donation from BMPI. The monetary aid will augment the financial resources of the AFP Assistance Fund.
