R&B Singer Arnee Hidalgo joins son onstage for a cause

Arnee Hidalgo and Sam Shoaf will perform a duet as a tribute for the country's troopers.

For the first time, the mother-and-son tandem of R&B singer Arnee Hidalgo and The Voice Kids Philippines alumnus Sam Shoaf will perform a duet in honor of the country’s uniformed men on the upcoming Songs for Heroes 2: Ang Mamatay Nang Dahil Sa Iyo (To Die For You).

“I am happy that I am going to perform with my son…this is something new for both of us,” Arnee shared.

Arnee rose to popularity back in 1990s and early 2000 because of her R&B renditions of Francis Magalona’s “Cold Summer Nights” and Spandau Ballet’s “True.” She was also part of Ryan Caybayab’s pop group14K and the all-girls vocal trio, Vibe.

For her ten-year-old son, it is an honor to perform on stage with the nation’s uniformed men.

“It actually feels good to be with our soldiers because they save our lives and risk theirs to save our country,” Sam stated.

Asked about doing a duet with his mother, Sam said that he feels “more confident and excited.” He is thankful that through the concert, he got to know her better as they practiced together.

Arnee also expressed that the song they will render is a perfect choice for them. “[The song] is like a dialogue between the two of us, it is very fitting for a parent and a child,” she remarked.

The benefit concert, which will be held on June 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena, aims to tell the story of the lives of the country’s gallant defenders. It will also showcase the singing and dancing skills of the members of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
