PNP Receives Support from New DILG Secretary

Department of Interior and Local Government Chief Mel Sarmiento expressed his support to the existing programs and platforms of the Philippine National Police during the organization’s welcome honor to the newly appointed secretary.

On his part, PNP Chief P/Dir. Gen. Ricardo Marquez said that the police force is ready to support the platforms Sarmiento wishes to execute to “promote a new culture of good governance, transparency, public accountability and people empowerment in the PNP.”

Secretary Sarmiento also lauded the organization’s efforts to minimize crimes especially in the National Capital Region. He particularly commended the PNP’s Oplan Lambat-Sibat, which according to him has been very effective.

He also stated he is one with PNP Chief Marquez’s initiatives such as the continuity of the Oplan Lambat-Sibat, reinstallation of road patrols, imposing of simplified firearms license applications, and targeting zero crime rate during the country’s hosting of important global events.

“It is only considering by a long time goal, we can achieve the ultimate goal of the PNP Transformation Road Map by the year 2030 of a highly capable, effective and credible police service,” the DILG secretary remarked.

He added that he is proud that the PNP has produced patrolling manual after over two decades.

“Through President. Aquino, the PNO has been provided with the much needed update to include patrol cars [and] weaponry,” Sarmiento further enthused, highlighting the administration’s continued support to the institution’s operations.

Meanwhile, Sarmiento warned the PNP that his department will not tolerate corruption among police personnel. He emphasized that the DILG will not hesitate to dismiss anyone caught in illegal practices.

Nonetheless, he noted that the department is ready to commend those who perform well in their service to the nation.
