The United States Department of Energy (US-DOE) has donated four mobile detection vans to further boost the tactical capability of the Philippine National Police (PNP) when responding to situations in a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) environment.
Through its National Nuclear Security Administration represented by the US Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Michael Klecheski, the US DOE provided the police force with four complete sets of Second Line Defense (SLD) Mobile Detection System (MDS) vans.
The vehicles were formally turned over last November 16 at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
“This event is a testament of our shared commitment, to ensure smooth and successful hosting by the Philippine Government of the 2015 Asia Pacific Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Manila to be attended by heads of state from 21 economies and other delegates,” PNP Chief Police Director General Ricardo Marquez said during the ceremony.
“The arrival of four MDS vans with its accessories contributes to our efforts in the PNP to ensure the safety and security of all delegates and participants,” he added.
The PNP Chief is also confident that the donations will be helpful for the country’s police force to perform their duties even after the APCEC Summit Leaders Meeting.
For this week-long event, the PNP has deployed personnel from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG), and the Special Action Force (SAF).
Personnel from the Intelligence Group (IG), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP), Highway Patrol Group (HPG), Health Service (HS), and Communication and Electronics Service (CES) were also tasked to help secure the event’s delegates.
