Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mel Sarmiento recently recognized the intensified Oplan Lambat Sibat efforts of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
According to the reports cited by Sarmiento, there was an over 70 percent decrease in crime trend from June 2014 until the middle of November this year.
Since the Oplan Lambat Sibat was introduced last year, the average weekly incidents in Metro Manila declined from 919 to 282.
Oplan Lambat Sibat is a joint effort by the DILG and PNP aimed at curbing the country’s crime situation.
This campaign is “designed to cast a wide net of police vigilance in crime prone areas, as well as engage in focused operations against the country’s most wanted.”
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) shared that most theft cases still occur in malls and shopping centers. This has prompted PNP Chief Director General Ricardo Marques to boost its political presence in such places, especially this holiday season.
