AFP regains two significant installations in Marawi City

The military has been trying to seize from the ISIS-inspired Maute terrorist group the grand mosque or the Marawi City Islamic center.

On Thursday morning, the military was able to reclaim the mosque as well as the Marawi Police Station.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Spokesperson Brigadier General Restituto Padilla Jr. said, regaining the installations is among their priorities.

The military also continued its clearing operations in these installations to ensure that no improvised explosive devices or booby traps are left behind.

“So having it under the hands of government provides us the impetus to symbolically say that we have retaken the center of the city as well as the Marawi City police station which is a place of authority,” said Padilla.

Meanwhile, the military affirmed that their commitment and dedication to finally liberate Marawi City from the terrorists has intensified after President Duterte visited them for the third time on Thursday.

The chief executive entered the main battle area in full battle gear; went straight to the soldiers in the sniper nest and fired a shot towards the direction of the terrorists.

The president also distributed financial assistance, food packs, and watches for the soldiers fighting in the embattled city and ensured his full support to all the troops performing their duty.

“I will try to serve you, and I will see to it that you are comfortable. Unahin ko kayo (I will prioritize you),” said Pres. Duterte. — Rosalie Coz | UNTV News & Rescue
