PNP awards another set of Heroism and Merit Medals to police officers who have recently shown exemplary service (Photo from PNP-PIO).<\/p><\/div>\n

The Philippine National Police (PNP) lauded on October 5 the invaluable service of three police officers who were instrumental in the arrest of two fugitive murder suspects in Thailand.<\/p>\n

PSupt. Zacarias Noel Villegas and PCInsp. Julius Garcia of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)\u2019s Detective and Special Operation Division received the Medalya ng Kadakilaan (PNP Heroism Meda) while PSSupt. Charlo Collado of the Directorate for Intelligence was given the Medalya ng Kagalingan (PNP Merit Medal).<\/p>\n

The three officers helped in the apprehension of former Palawan governor Mario Joel Reyes and former Coron, Palawan mayor Mario Reyes who were included in the PNP Big 4 high-profile suspects. <\/p>\n

The Reyes brothers are the main suspects in the killing of journalist and broadcaster Gerardo Ortega last January 24, 2014.<\/p>\n

The police officers cooperated in the pinning down of the exact whereabouts of the Reyes brothers in Phuket, Thailand. The suspects were arrested on September 20, 2015.<\/p>\n

On the same occasion, the PNP also handed PNP Merit Medals to 12 more CIDG personnel for the apprehension of Shabbir Valdez Ponferrada last September 25. Ponferrada is the prime suspect in the series of carnapping, and taxi-related robbery and rape incidents in Metro Manila. The awardees are:

Another batch of PNP Merit Medal awardees were also recognized for the successful buy bust operation against Mikko Tiu Tan where they seized Php 100 million worth of shabu. The awardees, all from the Anti-Illegal Drugs and Operations Task Force, are:
