Manila Zoo tagged as ‘major pollutant’ of Manila Bay

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada ordered on Tuesday the closure of the 60-year-old Manila Zoo after it was tagged by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as a ‘major pollutant’ of Manila Bay.

In a memorandum dated January 21, Mayor Estrada ordered the zoo’s closure to give way for ‘proper assessment and study’ of the eventual rehabilitation of the decades-old amusement park.
